Introduce yourself
Amanda, I work as an environmental statistician and researcher and am in my mid-30s.
When did you become members of Lilac?
I became a fully-signed up member in early 2010, and currently also sit on the Development Group.
What size property will you be living in?
I will be living in a ground floor one-bed flat.
Why do you want to live in Lilac?
I have wanted to live in a strawbale house ever since I saw Ben Law building his beautiful timber frame strawbale home in the New Forest on the TV show, Grand Designs. I never thought I would be lucky enough to have the chance to actually live in a strawbale house, let alone one in the urban centre of my home town, Leeds!
What do you think the best thing about living in Lilac will be?
I cant wait to live in an eco-friendly, super-insulated, quiet and well built house with a proper garden, instead of my rented, draughty, noisy, back to back terrace with its enormous heating bills, cellar that floods every winter and tiny gravel yard that is used as a cat litter tray by every neighbourhood moggie! I will miss the charms of Armley, but am looking forward to discovering the beauty of Bramley.
Anything else you want to say
Im very excited to be a part of this innovative project, the Lilac model is a fantastic way of developing homes in a way that steps lightly on the earth but also ensures there is community and friendship and lasting affordability.
There are 20 households in Lilac. Eleven brave households are profiled below.
