I joined LILAC in Feb 2011 after finding out about it through friends. I couldn’t believe that I could afford to live in a brand new eco-home AND that it was going to be built on my doorstep in Leeds!
I will be living in a top floor 2 bedroom flat. I hope friends and family will be visiting me often to find out what LILAC is all about.
I have already learnt tonnes about shared living through working on the project, for example trying to make sure everyone is listened to and valued, how to make decisions by consensus.
When we move in I’m looking forward to having friendly, supportive neighbours, and having loads of communal green space. I can’t wait to discover new exciting things like bee-keeping and permaculture… Maybe I’ll introduce people to rock-climbing in return! Above all it’ll be great to just chat and relax with a cup of tea in our common house.
I see LILAC as a way of lowering our impact on the planet and trying to be more connected with the people around us.
There are 20 households in Lilac. Eleven brave households are profiled below.
